Chennai Restaurant Reviews/ Dining Out

Faruuzi Restaurant, Kovilambakkam, Chennai

Have seen this place a zillion times on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, but never had a chance to visit it until yesterday!  On the eve of friend’s wedding anniversary, we were three families meeting up for dinner to celebrate the occasion.  I’ve been to their restaurant in Chromepet, a couple of years ago.  Knew what to expect here!

The place has a bright nameboard, difficult to miss.  It is located right next to Sangeetha Express, on the left side when you’re headed in the direction of Pallavaram.  Friends reached about 10-15 minutes before we made it, they got a comfortable table, good for 12 folks.

They had already ordered soups and starters, and then we arrived.  Missed clicking a couple of pics of the soups they had, and then I caught up 🙂

Dragon Chicken, Mexican Shawarma plate, Shawarma Roll, Crab Lollipop and Fish Fingers were some of the non-vegetarian starters ordered, more than 1 plate for some of them.  Not elaborating on these dishes as I had only vegetarian, by choice.  Friends and their kids relished the food.  There was not a slightest complaint with what was served.

For the four of us, ordered a Sweet Corn veg soup and a Veg Manchow soup to be served one by two, Pepper Mushroom Fry and Paneer Sholay Kebab (I think I got the name rite, it was suggested by the waiter instead of the usual Paneer Tikka).  Both the soups were good.  Pepper Mushroom Fry was very tasty, the heat from the pepper was a nice punch to the dish.  Paneer kebab was wonderful too.  Very soft Paneer, nice flavor as it was apparently slit and stuffed with some masala, the mint chutney added to the taste.  We loved it too.

Quite stuffed after the soup and starters as we also had a helping of the wonderful Choco Truffle cake.  We brought a cake for a brief cake cutting celebration.

For the main course, we ordered 1 Chicken Fried Rice, 1 Kung Pao Chicken gravy, 3 Vegetable Noodles, 1 Gobi Manchurian gravy.  Everything was tasty, heard no complaints from the non-vegetarian section too.

Desserts order had ice creams, faloodas and a lemon Mint cooler.  I had the mini falooda, and was good.

Full points to the food, I wouldn’t complain about anything at all.  However, the service or rather the lack of it duirg the end of our meal, left a lot to be desired.  We literally couldn’t locate the waiters to place our dessert orders.  Had to step out of my seat at least 2-3 times to get him to the table.  One Veg Noodles took more than 20 mins to arrive, and after a couple of reminders.  Since we were so engrossed in chit-chat, we didn’t mind the delay, else it would have been worse.

Overall, a very nice place running house-full during a week day, which is very good to see.  They certainly need to step up the service.  Friend paid the bill, I am not sure how much!
Had the service been wonderful, I’d rate it 5/5, now I’d rate it 4/5 for the poor service towards the end of the meal.  I should certainly mention that food was tasty, including the vegetarian stuff that we ordered.
