Catching up with a friend after a long time, needed a place to sit and talk at length, preferably sipping on cold ones and munching on some side-eats. Decided to go to The Right Place, a coffee-shop in The Residency. Its been a long time since I’ve been here. The Residency used to be one of our very regular hangouts since Tinto days, and for sometime after it changed to Black and White too.
Ordered Vodka Egg Fritters and Kozi Varutha Curry along with 2 Carlsberg beers. Loved the Egg Fritters and the Mayo dip that was served with it. Kozhi varutha Curry was exactly how we remembered it from those days, hadn’t changed one bit, relished that. Ordered another beer and a couple of more side-eats – Mirchi Bajji and Tomato Chilli tossed Sausages. We ordered all these side-eats from the table-tent menu. Both these dishes failed to make a great impression, unlike the first two. Sausages were little less on the smoky flavor, otherwise decent. Sausages used to be my everyday bite while I was in Oslo, so was expecting something like that. Mirchi Bajji hardly had the flavor of mirchi in it, more batter, less mirchi. It was because, unlike a full or a half bajji in most places, there were only very thin strips of the mirchi inside sans the seeds too. The chutney along with it tasted good though. I should mention, the complimentary bowl of crispies on the table was good, we almost finished that too.
The final bill was about 2.6K including the 3 Cold ones, quite understandable for a property like that.
A word of caution, I wouldn’t necessarily choose this place if I were to go with a family because it looked like this place serves more as a bar, and less as a coffee shop from what I could see. Since Black and White has pub-rules, perhaps those who prefer a silent place without any of these rules, end up here. A few regulars, as they seemed, were a bit too tipsy 🙂 Though they didn’t create any ruckus, they were definitely a bit too loud.
Overall, had a good time with a friend and that’s what mattered most!
