Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Spice Haat – Hyatt Regency, Teynampet, Chennai

Even before I pen my review, I’d like to say – It’s a steal, without a doubt! Go for it!
When I saw the flyer from Spice Haat – Hyatt Regency, Chennai, that said ‘Unlimited Beer and Buffet priced at rupees 1099 AI (all inclusive)’, quickly searched for any conditions they may have added in fine print, I didn’t see any! Our CBC group immediately decided to do this on a Saturday evening, for dinner.

As you may have guessed, dinner was the last thing on our minds. 😉 A few of us were there at 07:30PM and few of them were on their way. We were about 15 of us, in all. Quickly took a tour of the restaurant and clicked some pictures. They had an elaborate spread, over a few counters, a few live counters, a chaat counter, dessert counter and much more. Chilled beers on ice was a sight so inviting that we got back to our table and decided to start off right away 😀

Kingfisher Pints made their way to the table, nicely chilled along with the starters. We asked them to serve the starters on the table to spare the hassle of moving back and forth, so we could focus on the beer 😉
When you have a prominent figure in F&B circles on your table, its no wonder that Chefs and staff of the hotel come to say a hello! Thanks to Guddu Anand a.k.a Gudduji, needless to say, we were taken care of very well!

Chaat was tasty, tried pani puri, bhelpuri, dahi papdi, dahi puri, all of them were good. Hot Paniyaaram with two chutneys was a nice accompaniment to beer. Chicken and Paneer Tikka came next. Chicken was good, but I wasn’t impressed with the paneer, it was chewy and hard. Though we didn’t eat it, the green chillies on the plate added a lovely contrast to the photos 🙂 Special mention to Mutton Barta, tasted yummy. I’m not a regular mutton eater, just tasted a bit, loved it. Veg Spring rolls were tasty. Friends liked Fish Pakora, I was told it was Basa. South-Indian potato fry was good.
For a change, tried some dry fruits and nuts with cheese, liked it. A veg and a chicken pizza came next. Chicken pizza tasted yummy, didn’t try the veg pizza, we let the vegetarians have their way with it 🙂 Cut-fruits were absolutely fresh and we had some of it with beer.
Meanwhile we took a walk to one of the party halls, which could seat about 20-30 people. It was basically to check the venue for a possible future CBC meet-up. In addition to the neatly-laid table, there was an outdoor lawn and a table where bar counters could be set up. Overall, a very nice place.
Came back to our table and resumed our love story with beer. 😀 This time, the accompaniments were a few dishes from the main course. I didn’t eat too much of the main course, only managed to click some pics. Pasta was tasty. Paneer in gravy was good, soft and yummy.
Deep dived into the desserts counter. A variety of cakes, pastries, brownies, pudding, mousse, you name it, they had it 🙂 We finished around 11:30 PM, and have to be honest in saying, few of them had over 10 pints and most of them between 5 and 10. The waiter was very polite and a really nice guy who served us for four hours without a slightest hesitation. I’d like to really thank him for making our evening extra plesant.
That’s how our evening ended. Non-stop four hours of beer and food. As advertised, it was indeed ‘Unlimited’ and a steal, without a doubt!
I think the offer is on until the end of May, Monday – Saturday, for Lunch and Dinner.  Please check with the restaurant before you go.
