Krishna Restaurant in New Woodlands Hotel is one of the few places in Chennai which still retains the old-world charm, reminds you of the nice feeling of having visited it with parents as a kid. Some of the other similar places which bring back pleasant memories are Hotel Palmgrove, Hotel Maris, Hotel Ashoka, to name a few! I’ve been here a few times and it has been pretty much the same always, good food and service.
After visiting a couple of temples in Mylapore with family, the next logical stop was dinner in the vicinity. Immediately remembered this place and looked no further. It has been a while since I’ve been here. There’s enough place to park cars as it is inside the hotel premises, there’s also a security person to assist with that.
We entered into a packed restaurant and had to register our name and wait to be called. There were already quite a few people ahead of us, waiting for the table. Luckily, we managed to get the table in about 10 minutes.
Settled down and quickly decided on what to order! Butter Masala Dosa, Ghee Masala Dosa, Onion Rava Dosa and Poori Potato was our first order. It came in less than 10 minutes, tasted wonderful. I tasted a bit of everything, loved the ghee masala dosa better than the butter variant. Onion Rava was also nicely made, would have liked a little more onions though. Poori Masala was tasty. After we were done with that, ordered 2 plates of Chappathi Kurma. This was good too. Absolutely no complaints with the food so far!
I wanted to finish with a filter coffee, daughter wanted a Pista icecream and son wanted a grape juice. Since ice cream was going to be 2 scoops, wife decided to share it with daughter. Filter Coffee was barely warm, so had to send it back and ask for hot coffee. It was immediately done with an apology. Rest of them were good.
Overall paid a little less than 1K. This place is slightly pricey as its located in a Star hotel, and that’s quite understandable. I would definitely go back for wonderful food and service.
