A late night dinner around 11PM with a friend. Not too many choices on the way back home, decided to try Majestic 1963 in Nandanam, right next to the Audi showroom.
I have been here a few times earlier, always liked the food here, especially the parottas. This time friend ordered Aappam and Paaya, in fact Idiyappam was the first choice. Since it was not available, he was okay with Aappam. I opted for a Shawarma Roll, since I wanted a bit more of it, ordered a Shawarma plate instead.
Friend loved the Aappam with Paaya, and I did taste a little of the aappam with the paaya gravy, it was very flavorsome.
Coming to the Shawarma plate, it was okay taste-wise, but I was a bit disappointed. In fact, most of the places in Chennai serve shawarma like this. When a block of meat is placed in a spit and grilled, and then meat is shaved off it, don’t see why it has to be gooey with a paste-like consistency. I must have had such rolls from quite a few places in Chennai, and if not as gooey, most of them still are!
I still cannot get over the humongous Shawarma Roll that I had in Oslo, and that, will remain my benchmark for a shawarma roll until I taste something better! Here is a picture clicked when it was made.
We finished with Black Tea, and since there was a lemon wedge on the side, we made it Lemon Tea. That was refreshing! Loved the slow-motion video I clicked more than the Tea itself 😉
Overall, nothing worth complaining at that time of the night, paid 515 bucks for a decent meal!
