Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Abhinandan, Hotel Ashoka, Egmore

While my friend and I were looking for a place to have lunch in and around Egmore, my friend suggested Abhinandan restaurant in Hotel Ashoka, one of the very old places, still charming in its own way! We walked into a huge property, neat and spacious. Instantly it got my friend nostalgic. He had memories of staying in this property along with his family as a kid during his Chennai visits.

We entered the restaurant, it was pretty big, the AC was welcoming considering the heat outside! Quickly glanced at the menu and ordered 1 Special Bombay Meals and 1 Ashoka Special Thali.
Food was served in about 10 minutes. We got Tomato soup each, Gulab Jamun for the Special Thali and a Boondi Laddu and a Dahi Vada for the Special Bombay Thali. We shared everything so we could taste a bit of everything!
Meanwhile, the Thali arrived. Both the Thalis looked good and we were quite hungry too, so wasted no time in digging into it.
By and large, everything tasted good. A few small things, if at all we had to complain, Chole and Kadhi could have been better. There’s always a difference in eating a North Indian Thali in a South Indian Restaurant and the vice versa. Otherwise, Paneer Butter Masala was good with the Butter Naan, Dal was good, and I didn’t find anything worth complaining specifically. We have gotten so accustomed to certain tastes that Noodles and Paneer Butter Masala from Sangeetha feels like a benchmark 😉
We finished with an ice cream each, my friend got a fruit salad with ice cream and I got a scoop of vanilla with chocolate sauce and nuts.
We paid a little less than 500 bucks in all, good food and service! I have heard this place serves tasty breakfast, would certainly come back for that!
