3B’s – Buddies, Bar & Barbecue; the version of AB’s – Absolute Barbecues that serves liquor! It is located on Hanumantha Road, a street off North Usman Road in T Nagar, exactly where Barbeque Nation was located earlier.
I have visited similar places and had an idea of what to expect. As we settled down, I was surprised that the tables didn’t have provision for grills! It was only then I came to know that this wasn’t a ‘grill-on-the-table’ setup! We were kinda okay with that, less hassle of handling the skewers on the grill, we thought! As far as we get the same meat served on our plate, it was okay. I liked the plates clearly color-coded, green for vegetarian and black for non-vegetarian. However, in a fully loaded plate, its not so easy to differentiate.
Since it was a lunch outing with extended family, drinks wasn’t on the agenda! That was another parameter gone wasted. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, I had to opt for vegetarian food that day! I felt sorry for myself, for the situation I was in 🙂 So, this review is a from a perspective of a vegetarian, eating a lunch with family, and not touching drinks, in a place called ‘Buddies, Bar and Barbecue’, a complete mismatch I thought.
The good thing was they had packages with and without liquor. We decided to go with the latter and it turned out to be pretty economical for what was on the spread! The starters arrived one after another. All of them relished the meats, prawns in particular. I was quite happy with the veg options – cheese potato, crispy fried corn, grilled mushrooms, Paneer Tikka, veg kebabs, grilled pineapple and watermelon, and we got all of these served as many times as we wanted. The waiters were very courteous and in fact asked us many times if we wanted anything customized. I got the spicy version of paneer tikka also.
Quite stuffed, I decided to skip main course and go straight to the desserts. I normally do this in these kind of places. The Pan shot ice cream, Phirni, Gulab Jamoon were all very good! The brownie had an overpowering smell of egg, wasn’t very impressed. The other two pastries were decent.
A few times while we were dining, we heard someone blow a whistle! Finally I spotted the guy! He was selling tequilla shots!!! 😀 That was different and nice. I would have loved to have one or two of them, its a sure thing on my next visit.
Throughout the time we were there, I should mention that the DJ was spinning extremely good music, but it was way too loud for a dining place. We could hardly hear what the other person spoke. So if you have plans to have a decent conversation over a meal, this is not the right place.
Overall, it was a nice experience, and it would have been a lot better had I come with friends, for relishing meats along with beer and ocassional tequilla shots, swaying to music! It was not the best of places for our need, AB’s – Absolute Barbecues or Coal Barbecues or Barbeque Nation or the likes would have been better for what we had in mind.
Paid a little less than 5K for 9 Pax, definitely worth it!
