Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Episode 23, Anna Nagar East

This place has been on my mind since the time they opened, perhaps a few months ago, and no prizes for guessing why it took so long! Anna Nagar, as I have said many times, is not one of the places I frequent in Chennai. Finally along with another foodie friend, managed to strike this place off from my to-do list.

The place is located in Anna Nagar East, on top of a sweet shop. I am not too familiar with this part of Chennai, this google pointer may be able to help to reach easily.
It is a small restaurant with just 24 covers. The interiors were nice, lighting perhaps slightly dim for clicking pics. The restaurant is on the first floor and a flight of stairs made of metal takes you there! Quite strong and sturdy, nothing to worry 🙂
The menu was not very elaborate, but had quite a few chicken dishes that got me excited. 😀
We started with Mozarella Sticks, Chicken a la King, and Buffalo Chicken Wings for starters. Mozarella sticks was good, the dip that came with it lacked salt. After we added it, it was yummy! Chicken a la King was basically chicken pieces in white sauce, tasted good! We were informed that Buffalo Wings was an Indianized version, and it tasted pretty good. The starters set the expectation for the main course quite high!
We ordrered Nachos Chicken, Prawn mousse, Peri Peri Chicken in a Waffle cone for main course. Nachos chicken was actually an expectation mismatch though it tasted awesome. It was basically one large chicken breast stuffed with cheese and coated with bread crumbs and nachos (similar in texture to pancko chicken) and deep-fried (I presume), served soaked in white sauce with mushrooms. It was yummy, but not what I had in mind. My friend felt that prawns, when minced, lose their character. He said it was good, but would have been a lot more impressive had the prawns been served in its original shape. Again, this had a white sauce as the base, so quite some cheesy stuff. Peri Peri chicken in cone was something different. The chicken tasted good, the cone was a bit too hard, but together it was a mix of sweet and savoury tastes, something different, in a nice way. One thing worth a mention was that there was not one piece of chicken (in spite of predominantly trying chicken dishes) that had this awful smell that turns me off! I have encountered this in many places and that is definitely worth an appreciation.
Finally, just one creme brulee cheesecake for dessert, which was topped with sugar and was blowtorched on our table that resulted in caramelizing the sugar on the top! It was super yummy, with the slightly crispy biscuity bottom acting as a neutralizer to the sweetness. Loved it!
Overall, there was not a slightest complaint as far as I was concerned, a happy ‘mostly-all-chicken’ meal for me, couldn’t be any better.
We paid about 1.4K in all, and I think it was absolutely worth it. I am not sure if I may go all the way again just to dine here, but to those who’re in and around Anna Nagar, I’d gladly recommend this place and if I am in the vicinity, I will definitely try!
