Heard a lot about this place from my foodie friends and I have been waiting for an opportunity to check it out. Myself and wifey were in T. Nagar around lunch time, immediately decided to head to Bhuuva, the newly-opened quick service restaurant (QSR) in Bazullah Road, just below Coal Barbecues.
I knew the place, it was easy to spot. The place had barely 2-3 slots for car parking, but no valet parking. Though I was lucky, it can be a challenge to find a place on the street. You’re better off with a two wheeler I would think. The interiors were nice and bright, but I spotted something very similar to Eating Circles – they only had four four-seater tables, and rest of them were stand-and-eat ones, not a very comfortable setup I thought. The owner Bhuvanesh did tell me during a brief conversation that he was planning to add another row of tables to sit, which actually would be a very nice thing to do. It would be really nice to invest in a fly-catcher, a couple of houseflies created a lot of nuisance. I’m not being too picky, just mentioning what would be nice to have.
Now coming to the food, there was a very limited menu, you could choose a Chicken/Mutton/Fish/Veg meal, a chicken/mutton/seafood side-dish of the day, variants of egg were available – Fried Egg, Masala Omelette, Egg Masala and boiled Egg, and you could end the meal with a rosemilk, buttermilk and nannari sarbath.
It was fairly easy to choose – a fish meal for wifey, chicken meal for myself, a chicken side-dish and a masala omelette. It looked like a pay-in-advance setup, but I was told I could pay later, so just ordered at the counter and came back. While we were waiting for the meal to arrive, I should mention that the smell of fish being fried was quite uncomfortable to me. They have an open kitchen setup, so obviously the smell gets to the dining area. Luckily, it subsided in a few minutes and wasnt a problem anymore.
The Thali looked good, quite a decent quantity of rice, a non-veg gravy according to the chosen meal with two decent-sized pieces, mixed rasam rice and mixed curd rice in bowls, and a poriyal (vegetable). The portion was definitely generous. First thought in my mind, this meal for 99 bucks was a steal! It was perhaps an introductory offer, not sure for how long they would continue this.
Started to taste, the chicken gravy was more like a home-made one, a bit runny, but tasty. The vaazhakkaai poriyal was yummy, something I didn’t expect when the focus is primarily on non-veg, we loved it. Rasam rice was tangy in a nice way and tasty, and curd rice was good too. Wifey liked the meen kozhambu, and the pieces in it. Its a personal preference that I would have loved a thick chicken gravy more, typically like the one that they serve in New Pattukottai Kamatchi Mess. However this was different and nice too. Masala Omelette was good, and Chicken side dish initially gave a dominating taste of raw red chilli, but as we began to eat, it complemented the chicken so well that we ended up ordering another one of it. 59g is very little, and obviously if its tasty, you’ll need another one. Ended the meal with chilled buttermilk and nannaari Sarbath. Both of them were wonderful! Paid 426 bucks in all, absolutely worth it.
Overall, the food was clearly a winner, loved it! For this price point, its a steal! But for the minor issues I have mentioned, there is nothing that would hold me back from recommending this place.
