After hearing about this place for quite sometime, finally got a chance to check it out! A couple of friends and I decided to catch up over beer and wanted a place in and around Velachery. Diff 42 and Evoke 2.0 were the obvious choices. Since I have already tried these places, I decided to check out a new place, and I’m glad I did.
This place is located in the lane between The Grand Mall and McDonalds, and this lane has turned out to be a hub for many restaurants, though not very popular ones, except Aki Bay and couple of other ones. On a Friday afternoon, around 3PM, we entered into an almost empty place. It was no different in Diff 42 on a Saturday afternoon, so convinced myself that they would be gearing up for a weekend evening! The place was a bit too dim to my liking, but then after sometime indoors, got better. Must have been the initial transition from bright outside to an almost dark inside. The bar counter was very catchy! It looked wonderful with the lighting effect, didn’t quite focus on what drinks were kept on the counter.
We decided to have beer, and decided to go with the domestic ‘regular’ 650ml bottle. Kingfisher Lager and Carlsberg were the two options on the menu, and were priced at 275 bucks each. Sounded quite reasonable in a place like that. The first disappointment, and luckily, the only one, was both these beers not being available! How basic is that?!? How can you run out of stock of your basic offering? That would be pushing the customers to choose more expensive drink or just leave! At least the Kingfisher Pint was available, a bit expensive as compared to the former, at 175 bucks each, but we were still okay with it. Imported beers were the only other option, if not this one.
I specifically wanted vegetarian and my friend was okay with non-vegetarian. While repeating the beer, we ordered side-eats. Before I elaborate, food was very tasty. I should say i really enjoyed it. We ordered Bbq Chicken Wings, Gobi Manchurian, Bbq Veg Pizza, Fish Finger, and a Chilly Paneer. I loved the vegetarian dishes and my friends relished the non-vegetarian stuff. Service was courteous, just that we had difficulty in getting the attention of the waiter, as we were seated in an extreme corner.
Probably weekend evenings mandate some dress code, but not when we were there. This nice place is definitely worth checking out. I can’t comment on what kind of music they play and what fancy cocktails they make, as we didn’t try that. I can safely say, you won’t be disappointed with the food. If they stock up on domestic beers, it’ll be pocket-friendly for more people. We paid a little more than 3.5K in all, for beer and food. I’d definitely recommend this place and gladly come back again.
