Evoke 2.0, Velachery

Until a couple of years ago, Velachery was a place with two extremes if you wanted to have a drink. It was either the five-star hotels like Park Hyatt and Westin or the local TASMACs until Diff 42 changed the scene. Since they were the only place in the mid-segment, I felt they went a bit too overboard with their rules. Now there’s another place in Velachery that aims to tap into this space. Decided to check it out, along with a friend of mine.

This place is actually located quite deceptively, in a busy street in Velachery,  in a complex that you would never imagine, can house a restobar as big as this 🙂
As soon as we entered, it did seem quite happening – young crowd, loud music, a small place to shake a leg, and it wasn’t very crowded at that time of the night. We were there for about an hour and a half from 22:00 hrs to 23:30hrs on a Sunday.
We settled down in a table close to where the DJ was spinning tracks, ordered a pitcher of British Empire. It was all good, until the volume suddenly went way up and was too loud to bear. Occasional spray of perfumed smoke all over the place wasn’t very comfortable either. Decided to shift to another seat, located on the other side, and that was much better. We repeated the draught beer with some side eats. Chicken starter was very good, French Fries was good too, Momos were decent, got slightly leathery, but with the spicy chutney, it was yummy. This place, from what I remember is more pricey than Diff 42, but you have another place in Velachery to drop in, that’s a plus.
Paid a little over 3K, and was a pleasant evening overall!
I would go back here without a doubt, until they get too obssessed with the dress code. 🙂
