Consciously, we as a family, have avoided popular Fast Food Chains for quite sometime now. I am happy that kids have gotten used to it too, I no longer get requests to hop into McD or KFC or Burger King after shopping in the Malls. Recently, after an evening of shopping at VR Mall, happened to see Taco Bell outlet here. I knew it opened in Chennai, just didn’t think too much about it then. When we anyway had to eat out, why not give this place a try, I thought!
The place was packed, and we were lucky to get a table just as a group vacated. Immediately grabbed that and I went on to order after a quick look at the menu. Like any fast food chain, order and pay in advance and get it at the counter, If its too crowded, they’ll serve it on your table.
We ordered – 2 Big Bell Box Non-Veg, 1 Naked Chicken Taco, 1 Chickstar, 1 Chicken Rice Bowl, 1 Chicken Burrito, Fries and Gaucamole for five of us.
Overall, portions were small. It felt quite little even for a normal eater. Naked Chicken was basically crispy chicken replacing the tortilla itself, with the filling, tasted good. Burrito was tasty. Chickstar was a wrap with chicken pieces inside. It tasted decent, not the most comfortable share to bite into. Chicken Rice Bowl was okay, didn’t quite like the flavor. Fries was good.
It wasn’t enough overall, so we ordered 2 more Naked Chicken, one Burrito Meal and a strawberry shake.
They had a 20% off for those who voted! That was nice, it reduced close to 400 bucks of the bill amount.
I’ve had Burritos and Tacos in a few Mexican restaurants in Oslo, Norway and loved them. Haven’t been to many Mexican restaurants in Chennai, except Habanero in Phoneix Market City, that closed down too. What I ate in Taco Bell wasn’t even close in taste. I understand that a restaurant and a fast food can’t be compared just because they serve the same dish. 🙂
Overall, food was okay. None of what we ate was worth complaining, but would I go back again? Probably not! I’ll probably look for an alternative to it.
