Yaa. Mohaideen, a name that has always evoked strong emotions in food circles, both positive and negative. ‘You love it or hate it, you can’t ignore it’ seems to be apt for this place. Recently saw that Yaa. Mohaideen Biryani Center opened an outlet in Kattankulathur and I have been waiting for an opportunity to visit this place. When a lunch meeting popped up with two other friends, immediately decided to try this place.
This place is located bang on GST road, in Kattankulathur. The prominent name board in yellow is difficult to miss. We entered into an almost packed place for lunch, and I was surprised to see a very small dining place. It had about 36 covers in the ground floor. Not sure if the floors above are in operation yet, we weren’t directed there while we were waiting to be seated.
As always, my preference has been egg biryani, preferably with chicken kuska and dry chicken dishes to go with it. I’m not a fan of the bland chicken in chicken biryani. We actually ordered 3 Egg Biryanis, and chicken side dishes were hardly there on the menu. No Chicken Sukka, Chicken 65 boneless wasn’t available and we settled for the one with bone. The waiter suggested 2-3 variants of ‘Chinese’ chicken dishes. Why would we order Chinese here? Ordered one Gobi 65 for a friend.
Raita and Brinjal gravy was there on the table. The Biryani was tasty! I was happy since the last two attempts both at Pallavaram and Velachery were average. Nothing to complain about the biryani. Chicken 65 was good too, except for the effort of medling with the bones š Gobi 65 was a bit oily than usual, didn’t like it that much. There was a really small portion of bread halwa that was a compliment with the biryani, it was pretty good.
Overall, paid 830 bucks, a decent lunch, nothing worth raving about or returning at the next possible opportunity. I’d rather try the Junior Kuppanna that’s located a little ahead in Maraimalai Nagar.
