Chennai Restaurant Reviews

The Cycle Gap, Anna Nagar

Finally managed to visit this upscale bar, restobar, pub, however you’d like to call it, The Cycle Gap in Anna Nagar is the new happening place, and one of its kind in that locality. Last two weeks have been a bit busy, hence this review comes a couple of weeks late.

As I have said earlier, Anna Nagar is not one of the places I frequent, and I have missed out on a lot of nice places to eat. However, when I heard about this place, I really wanted to check it out because it was very catchy. I have always felt that Chennai needs more of such places where you can just relax and have a drink or two with some nice side-eats, catching up with friends. Most of the places have their ‘rules’ about stags, and I am glad this one didn’t. The shoes and full pants are mandatory (read as chappals and shorts are not allowed). That’s still manageable, though I have not been able to comprehend how wearing shoes and behaving decent are connected.  🙂
We were a bit early in the evening and only a few tables were occupied by then. The ambience was wonderful, the color Yellow strikingly dominant, local slangs and movie dialogues on the walls, and a DJ spinning tracks. Since we were just three people, we chose one of those four-seater high tables. It wasn’t very comfy, not bad either. The lights were a bit dim for clicking pictures of food, but c’mmon how many do that anyway!  😉
They had some good offers on beers, Corona had 1+1 offer, an Ice Bucket of 6 Sterren pints at 750 bucks, now that’s an ice bucket challenge I’d gladly accept 😉
We ordered a few side eats during the evening, all from the table tent – Pancko Fried Chicken, Cheesy Fries, Kalakki, Malai Chicken Tikka/Kebab I think. All of them were quite tasty, no complaints with the food. Kalakki was surprisingly very good. I said ‘surprisingly’ because, that’s one dish I have eaten a lot in the local night kadais, not in upscale places. That similar kind of a punch in flavor took me by surprise. We ordered one more of that.
Over the next hour, the place was packed with a few more waiting in a queue. So I think If you’re not early, the chances of getting a table are slim.
Three of us had 2 Coronas, 2 Ice Buckets of Sterren Pints and all the above mentioned side-eats. We paid about 3 or 3.5K in all, not quite sure now, and I would say it was completely worth the experience.
The place, the drinks, the side-eats, the service and the crowd, everything was good. I would gladly come back for a good time with friends.
