Bars in Iconic Chennai Hotels

While Chennai has a lot of new-age restobars that have opened over the last decade, there is a some charm in the old-school bars located in iconic hotels in Chennai which these places lack.  A visit to a bar during those days would mean good conversation with friends on a variety of topics, familiar waiters with that ‘personalized’ service, and much more.  Not just loud defeaning music which makes it difficult even to hear what the person sitting next to you says.  Not that I don’t enjoy music, but once in a while, I love the old school charm which takes you back to the yesteryears.  

Below are some of my visits to the bars in iconic hotels in Chennai.  Even today, some of them take you back by a few decades.  

The Permit Room, Hotel Maris, Cathedral Road

Ramba Bar, Hotel Palmgrove, Nungambakkam

Madras Ashoka Hotel, Egmore

Bamboo Bar, The Savera Hotel, RK Salai

Hudson Lounge Bar at Harrisons Hotel, Nungambakkam

Crystal Bar, Hotel Ranjith, Nungambakkam

 

There are certainly more places that need to be on this list!  A couple of them I can think of right away are Lady Connemara Bar in Taj Connemara and The Society Bar in Ambassador Pallava.  If you know a few more that are truly worth checking out, please let me know in the comments.
