Hotel Crescent, Nungambakkam

A friend and I decided to head to one of the places that is known for wonderful non-vegetarian fare for breakfast – Hotel Crescent, in Nungambakkam. I have been there a few times, and always for the Sunday Breakfast. I have written about my first experience here!

Compared to my last visit, I was quite surprised that the food was mediocre and service was pretty slow. The AC in the AC Dining was almost non-existent.
We were in a mood to eat parotta, so I ordered 2 Parottas and Chicken Kothu Fry, (the waiter said that the gravy was included in it) and my friend ordered 2 Parottas and Paya. A place that can’t get the parotta right leaves a bad taste, literally ! Parottas were reheated, something wrong with the dough I think, a slight sour aftertaste. The red gravy had an overdose of tomato puree. So the first dish was a dampener. I barely managed to finish it, it was a struggle. My friend was of the same opinion about the parottas and the red gravy, but said the Paya was good. Ordered an Egg Dosa each, and with the extra paya, it tasted good. Chicken Kothu Fry was tasty, a nice subtle flavor of coconut oil with a punch of black pepper. My friend said Liver fry was very well made, he seemed to love it.
Quite full by now, ordered a Tea and a Sulaimani to end the breakfast. They were good, no complaints.
Paid around 600 bucks for the breakfast, but unlike my previous visits, it wasn’t very satisfying. I hope its just one-off thing and not a regular drop in standards.
