This place has withstood the test of time and has been there for many years now. I was in Trichy for a Twenty years school reunion and most of my friends were of the opinion that we should eat once in Vijay Mess, in Alexandria Road, Cantonment.
I do not remember eating here earlier, but for most of my friends, this was a regular eat-out and they were longing to go back here. The place is famous for their lunch meals, chicken Kozhambu(gravy), Chicken Fry, and Muttai Poriyal (a variant of Egg Burji). That’s exactly what we planned to eat!
We were eight of us and landed there at around 02:00PM, and the place was packed. We had to wait for about 5 minutes for a table. This is a mess, so do not expect ambience and comfort. However, it is decent and has a few fans and is definitely manageable even on a hot day. It is very popular among college students, politicians and has a steady stream of regular customers.
We were served in a banana leaf, rice and some poriyals(curries) came first. Then came the most-awaited Chicken kozhambu. Wow ! It was awesome! The Chicken fry was brilliant too. It was hot and spicy, but wonderful. The Muttai poriyal was good too! I wasn’t interested in anything else. Finished with another helping of rice and some Chicken Kozhambu again !
That was one fantastic lunch!
The owner, or rather the owner’s son who now manages the show knew a lot of my friends, some of them still in Trichy, some of them he remembers from our school days. This place is a must-visit for a Lunch if you are in Trichy !
