A Trip to Pune and Shirdi

This post is an attempt to put together some of my food experiences during the trip to Pune and Shirdi.

We took a flight from Chennai to Pune and decided to drive to Shirdi. Accordingly booked a car on Zoom Car and that whole experience was seamless.

It was a very early flight, we reached Pune airport by 06:30AM and picked up the car. Since I already did some initial investigation, we knew we had to take the Pune – Nashik Highway (NH60) and the pitstop for breakfast was planned to be Akash Misal House, bang on the highway after Rajgurunagar.

We reached Shirdi around 2PM and checked in. Quickly freshened up as we had a booking for Darshan for 4PM. We decided to have a quick lunch and proceed to the temple. Decided to go to the usual place Sai Sagar Food Court, located right next to the temple on the Pimpalwadi Road.

After a wonderful darshan, and done strolling on the streets of Shirdi for some shopping, decided to have a light dinner on the way to the hotel, we spotted Sai Krishna Udupi and decided to try.

Next morning, the plan was to drive to Shani Shingnapur, but have breakfast before that. Since we wanted to explore some authentic Maharashtrian breakfast, decided to try Renuka Misal & Restaurant, located just about 2KMs from the temple, on the Manmad highway. Don’t miss this place when in Shirdi.

We started off to Shani Shingnapur and as we reached, the fresh sugarcane juice shops all over the place were a sight to watch. It was a lovely experience!

After a darshan, we were headed to Pune and didn’t specifically feel like stopping for lunch. Proceeding on State Highway 49 Ahmed Nagar-Aurangabad Road, spotted a lot of Bhel Centers in a place called Pandharichapool, Ghodegaon. Decided to try!

Resumed the journey to Pune, should mention, heavy traffic and pretty bad roads, it took longer than expected. Had a flight to catch at 09:30PM, and initial plan was to hit Pune by 6PM so we could try one of the Maharashtrian Thalis at Maratha Samrat. It was almost 7PM by the time we reached, and we were lucky to spot Surve’s Pure Non-Veg in Viman Nagar, close to the airport
