Andhra Annam, a name I noticed a few months ago during one of my visits to OMR Food Street on MGR Salai in Kandanchavadi. Not new to eating Andhra cuisine, and in fact, very fond of it, headed for a lunch with wifey.
The place is not directly visible from the road as it is located on the inner side of the food court. The interiors are nicely done and I liked the use of vibrant yellow and blueish-green colors. The place gives you a feel of fine-dine restaurant and not just another basic place.
We saw that most of them were having meals, so decided to try that. Of course the menu had a wide variety to try, we just ordered basic stuff this time.
The first thing that I spotted was Kothmeera Kodi Vepudu. Thought that would be a nice accompaniment to the meals. Sadly, we were told that was not available. Nimma kodi skewers was the other chicken dish prominent on the menu, decided to order that.
It was one of those dishes that remotely had nothing to do with its name. Skewers?!? There were none! Hint of lemon?!?! Not until I squeezed two lemon wedges on the chicken. It left me wondering why was it named so. The portion was good, chicken was soft, well-cooked and it was basically deep-fried boneless chicken, that’s about it.
Coming to the meals, I asked for a veg meals and wifey had non-veg meals. A couple of pieces of chicken 65, a chicken gravy with a piece and a fish gravy with a piece were the ‘extra’ in non-veg meals. Chicken gravy was a disappointment, it was close in flavors to its veg counterpart which was an accompaniment for the chappathi, basically a tomato based gravy, chicken was well-cooked though.
Wife said the fish gravy was spicy and wonderful. From the veg section, the Majjiga pulusu, Sambhar, Rasam, and aratikaya vepudu was yummy! Curds was fresh and semiya paayasam was good.
The customary pappu podi and gongura were there on the table. Rice was served, unlimited.
Egg Omelette was well made and quite a large portion in size.
Overall, the experience was a mixed bag. Service was very courteous though.
I still think I would have loved the Kothmeera Kodi Vepudu. I’d like to go back again to try some of their other specials before concluding anything on this one.
Paid 604 bucks in all, a mixed opinion as of now.
