Uttar Bhojan, Kodambakkam

A little gem in Kodambakkam if you’re thinking North-Indian Food. Uttar Bhojan, the name pretty much self-explanatory, is a place I’ve been waiting to try for quite sometime. I’ve heard there are two branches, one in Kodambakkam and another in Valasaravakkam. Made up a quick plan with a friend and tried the former as it was closer and easier to reach.

Located just next to the Gokulam Signal, off Arcot Road in Kodambakkam, this place is a must-try for tasty North-Indian food. As we entered, the colorful ambience was striking and the place was neat, though small. It was a place where you could certainly take your family without hesitation. Its not fine dining, so please be prepared for a basic ambience and seating.
We were unlucky that a few dishes were available only on the weekends, so missed tasting Chole Bhature and Aloo Poori. We asked them what was available and ordered accordingly.
Paneer Pakoda, Kadi Pakoda, Aloo-Onion Parantha, Special Ghar Ki Thali was what we ordered for two of us. It took a while to be served, but since we were chatting up, wasn’t a big deal.
First look, Paneer pakoda was super yummy ! Absolutely soft paneer, with a nice crispy outer covering and a sprinkle of chaat masala on it, tasted wonderful with the two sauces.
Aloo-Onion Parantha was tasty with adequate filling all over and achaar and fresh curds went well with the parantha.
Kadi Pakoda was yummy too, very tasty. Every mouth, the nicely soaked fenugreek seeds along with finely chopped green chilly took this to another level.
Coming to the Special Ghar ki Thali, It had Pulao, Dal, Paneer gravy, Aloo gravy, salad and sweet with 2 phulkas. Everything tasted wonderful. Only one feedback would be that pulav was a little high on spices. Too many I bit into, which spoiled the otherwise tasty pulav. Star Anise, Cloves, Elaichi, Brinji Leaf and perhaps JadhiPathri too, which was a bit too pungent. Otherwise, it was yummy. There was a sweet which was pretty good too.
Masala Chaas and Lemon Shikanji was wonderful, would have liked it a little colder.
Paid 672 bucks in all, overall, absolutely yummy food ! I’d gladly visit again and recommend it.
It would make a world of a difference if service was a bit quicker and warm, though there was nothing worth complaining during my visit.
