Orange Wok

New kid on the block – Orange Wok, a welcome addition to Velachery. Located on the Bypass Road, it is right next to Wildcraft showroom and Subway. Since I live very close to this place, decided to check this out with my friend. The place was spotlessly clean, nice interiors. just a couple of tables occupied when we entered. The place can seat 38 people at a time, 8 four-seater tables and 3 two-seater tables. Hope I got the count rite 😉

The menu wasn’t very fancy, was just a few sheets of paper stapled together. They had a nice variety, could spot Chinese, Thai, Burmese and probably Indonesian/Malay (saw the Nasi and Mee Goreng I think) dishes, though we didn’t experiment much.
We ordered a Chicken Manchow Soup to be shared between the two of us, Chicken Satay, and Veg Spring Rolls (It was called Poh poi Roll I think) for starters. The soup was served in about ten minutes. Loved the flavor in it. Crispy noodles in the soup added a nice balance to the spice. Starters followed one after another. Chicken Satay was awesome with soft and succulent chicken pieces and the peanut sauce was very good too. Small bits of lemon grass in the peanut sauce added a nice twist to the dish. Vegetarian Spring Rolls were stuffed with noodles inside, and pretty much tasted like how a deep-fried roll would taste. It was tasty too. Both the starters had nicely cut carrot slices (more like decorative cutting), absolutely fresh and crunchy, I ate almost all of it. While we were still having the starters, ordered a Pan-fried noodles with chicken in Hunan Sauce. They had two options for the sauce – Schezwan and Hunan, we wanted a less spicy one and hence opted for the latter. The vegetables in the dish were a tad raw, but that was quite okay, the chicken could have been slightly better. A very mild ‘smell’ of chicken (which I think, is because of not thawing properly) in a few pieces. In fact, it was very mild and not specifically worth complaining. Finally wanted to share a dessert, we ordered Honey Crispy Noodles with ice cream. It was yummy and I liked the combination.
The service was very polite and non-intrusive. The waiter must have refilled my glass of water at least four times without even asking for it. I said a quick Hello to the owners and shared my feedback with them. The dinner set us back by about 900 Rupees and was absolutely worth it. A nice enjoyable dinner close to my place and we’re going to be back soon!
