Prems Graama Bhojanam, a name that needs no introduction among the foodies in Chennai. The food they serve is simple, healthy and different. This makes them very unique with their offering.
I have been here once and absolutely enjoyed the elaborate tiffin items they serve for dinner. You can read about it here. I haven’t tried their Meals yet and it was precisely the reason for this visit. Mr. N.S.Krishnamoorthi, along with his family, is the person behind this wonderful venture. His passion reflects in the food they serve. You’ll know it the moment you get to talk with him π
Coming to the food, I knew what to expect because every other day there is a review about lunch at PGB. So ordered one Meals. The interesting thing with food here is that in spite of serving dishes like Samhar Rice, Rasam Rice and Variety Rice, there is actually no rice, but different types of millets substituting rice. The Meals Thali was simple and neat. It had Sambhar Rice made with Thinai, Rasam Rice made with Kuthirai-vali and Thulasi, Pudhina Rice made with Varagu, Curd Rice made with Saamai, Bottlegourd curry with ground peanuts, Chappathi with Kadala Curry, three small balls of Kali made with Ragi, Kambu and Vendhayam with a cup of Kaara Kozhambu, Payasam with Red Aval (Beaten Rice) and Jaggery, and a little Gongura thovayal. Sorry, you need a bit of Tamil vocabulary to understand names of millets and Kaara Kozhambu and Thovayal π
Overall, absolutely tasty food. Nice subtle flavors that keep reminding you that the food is something different from what you normally eat at restaurants. I love the homely touch to the food here. No extra masalas, no extra oil, and true to what they say, it is healthy indeed. In fact, there is no papad with the meals. π The drinking water is flavored with cardamom, cloves and camphor so you really feel you are drinking Temple theertham π For me, this is a clear winner! Rs. 120 for this meal is absolutely value for money.
Be prepared for a non-AC dining experience. There are enough fans everywhere, so it is definitely manageable even on hot days.
I would definitely recommend this place for wonderful food. Had a brief pleasant chat with Mr. N.S.Krishnamoorthi. A visit with family is due soon.
