It has been a long time plan and it finally happened today ! Momoyama done and dusted today π
We were two friends, on our way back home when we decided to have dinner. In spite of all the diet restrictions, remembered Momoyama on TTK Road and decided this is the chance.
The place can be a little tricky to find, we struggled a bit and then managed to. As soon as we entered, there was a very familiar smell of cigarette and liquor, more like a bar than a restaurant. We were escorted to a four-seater table. The ambience was quite okay. Settled down and took about five minutes to go through the menu. We realized it was a waste of time, and it would be much better to ask for suggestions π
Ordered a starter and main course together – Tori Katsu for starter, Yaki Udon and Omu Rice for main Course. We managed to get an ‘all-chicken’ meal and were pretty satisfied. Remembered someone saying they serve Japanese beer/wine, asked for it. I was told they have Soju which was a Korean Rice Wine. It was served by the bottle and I was told it was to be consumed ‘neat’, generally in a shot glass. Since my friend wouldn’t drink, I had to take the entire responsibility for the 8 shots π btw it was only 19.95% and manageable. It tasted more like spirit than wine. π There was a little buzzer on the table to call for assistance and it did work! π They served Green Tea which was meant to be cold and was a replacement for water, it tasted good.
Now the food! Tori Katsu was breaded Chicken Cutlet and was very tasty. The sauce along with it was very different, but ok. Yaki Udon was basically Fried Noodles, the noodles was thick, very long and greasy, but tasted quite good. Chicken pieces in it could have been cooked a little more, felt a bit chewy. Omu Rice was awesome, with a sheet of egg around it, the sticky rice tasted awesome. Nice flavor and cooked well. Overall, a very different meal and well worth the experiment.
The dinner set me back by a little more than 2K.
There were quite a few foreigners the whole evening until we finished. If you are allergic to cigarette smoke or just don’t like it, may be a little difficult to manage, otherwise, it was a nice place.
