Not that I was very eager to try food in the Music Sabhas, but was driving on G N Chetty Road on some personal work and was damn hungry when I spotted the board ‘Gnanambiga Caterers’ in Vani Mahal.
By then, I made up my mind that I was going to have some light tiffin and Coffee. That’s how I entered this place.
The place was decent, neat and clean. No printed menu, just oral mention of available items. Too tired to explore, ordered the first two items he mentioned – Mysore Bonda and Onion Vadai. It came in a jiffy, piping hot. Rest were all heavy tiffin items – Puri Masala, Lemon Sev, Saemiya Khichdi , Idly and so on. Was not in a mood to eat heavy 😛
Back to the food – Onion vadai was actually Medhu vadai with onion 😀 I expected something like masala vadai. Three small Mysore Bondas and Two small Onion Vadais, tasted good. Chutneys were tasty and fresh. Gothsu was very tasty. Ordered Aval Kesari. It was oozing ghee and sweeeeet!! Scared for a minute that this was a calorie bomb! A Filter Coffee to end the tiffin! It was perfect !
Overall, tasty. A bit pricey, but no complaints. They have a clientèle exclusively during this season and hence it works just fine!
A plate of Vadai and Bonda – Rs 40 each, Aval Kesari – Rs 30, and Filter Coffee – Rs 25. It was Rs 135 in all !
