Meals Takeaway from Adayar Ananda Bhavan

My sister’s family were in Chennai for a vacation, so decided meet up at parents’ place and wanted to order a simple vegetarian lunch, preferably a thali.

The idea was to sit together and spend some time rather than one or two of them losing time in cooking. We were seven adults and two kids in all. Since my last experience with food from Sangeetha was a disaster, I wanted to try something different. Having tried Sar v Sri earlier, I requested people in CFG for options. Unfortunately no responses and I had to go with Adayar Ananda Bhavan, Velachery as I was running out of time.
Ordered 4 North-Indian Meals, 4 South-Indian Meals and a Curd Rice. South-Indian Meal was packed in a Box and appalam and banana leaf were separately given, the North-Indian Meal didn’t look very impressive. Naan and papad were packed with aluminium foil and looked ok.
I decided to go with the North-Indian Meal. The subzi had too much masala and less salt and was oily, the paneer gravy was very hot and both of them were not even close to being impressive, the dal was the only savior. Naan was ok, vegetable biriyani was ok, but the masala was dominating. I had to leave away at least half of the two side-dishes. There was a kesari that was barely passable. Coming to the South-Indian meal, managed to taste a bit of everything from my wife’s vaazha elai. Almost all of them were decent. Vaththa kozhambu was super good, the kesari with this meal was different and tasted good. So undoubtedly this was much better in comparison to the North-Indian Meal.
North-Indian Meal priced at Rs 165 was a disaster, while the South-Indian Meal priced at Rs 100 was decent.
