Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Starbucks Coffee

After all the hype and hoopla, people going gaga on the social networking sites, Starbucks opened their first outlet in Chennai in Phoenix Market City in Velachery !

I am not a big fan of Starbucks, but I wouldn’t mind going there once in a while for a cup of Americano and some side eats.  It’s not just the coffee, its also the ambience and comfort of having coffee in a cozy place.
It is just a day old in Chennai and there were steady stream of customers walking in while I was there.  For those who have been to Starbucks outside India, it is the joy of trying out a familiar place, and for those who have never been there, it is just to see what the heck it is 😀
I ordered a Short Americano, a Grilled Chicken Salad Sandwich and a Murgh Kathi Wrap !  I knew this place was going to be pricey and sure it was.  I paid 110 for the Americano, 160 for the chicken wrap and 170 for the sandwich.  No complaints as far as the pricing is concerned.  It is an international brand and inside a Mall and I wouldn’t expect them to serve a coffee for Rs 50.  This place is slightly more expensive than Costa Coffee, which is also located in the same Mall.
Starbucks Coffee in Chennai has become a prime topic of discussion on many food forums in social networking sites about how an International Coffee brand is going to sustain in the Coffee capital of India, Chennai.  I don’t expect Starbucks to convert all the Filter Kaapi lovers into their customers, but sure It’s going to be a hit with the younger generation and we’ll see more outlets opening up in the coming days!
