The mere mention of the word ‘Biryani’ stirs emotions, in a positive way! With so many different styles of biryani based on geography, people get very possessive about ‘their’ style. In fact one of the quotes that I’ve heard from the food circles sums it up nicely – ‘One man’s biryani is another man’s tomato rice‘ !

I have no affinity or bias when it comes to Biryani. I relish a Tamil Muslim Biryani as much as Malabar Biryani or Hyderabadi Biryani or Arcot Biryani. Each one brings a unique taste and a feel which I love. This time, it was Hyderabadi Biryani at Paradise in Perungudi. Contrary to the many reviews I’ve come across in food circles, I have always liked the biryani here. I must have been to this place a few times now. When I visited their outlet in Secunderabad, I perhaps had a feeling it was a shade better then their Chennai counterpart, but couldn’t quite convincingly say so 🙂 I’m not even getting into which Biryani in Hyderabad is the best.

After a long evening of shopping, kids wanted to go here! We were extremely hungry and really had no patience for soup and starters, deep dived into the Biryani right away. They have two sizes – the ‘Single’ and the ‘Full’. Full is perhaps one and a half times the single portion. We ordered 2 Single Chicken Biryanis, 1 Full Chicken Biryani and 2 Fresh juices – Watermelon and Pineapple. It was served pretty soon and it was yummy. I’m not a big fan of the bland chicken in the biryani that is available in most places in Chennai. Hence I try to opt for the variants wherever it is available – Chicken 65 Biryani, or the Tandoori Chicken Biryani, where the bland chicken pieces get replaced with these. In Hyderabadi biryani, of course its different, with flavorsome and soft chicken. Quantity was good, the mix of rice and masala was perfect. The accomplaniments were good too – slices of onion with lime, dahi chutney and a tasty saalan. We all loved the biryani and had absolutely no complaints with the food or service. Fresh juices were good, nothing worth raving about. The service was very courteous and it made the dining experience more pleasant.

Paid a little less than 1K for the dinner, and I would certainly come back again !
