Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Murugan Idli Shop, Velachery

Personally, after a couple of bad experiences with the T Nagar outlet, many years ago, I never really attempted to step into this place. It was more about the attitude of the waiters than the food itself. Their outlet in Kaveripakkam on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway was the one that got me visiting the place again. That is my regular pitstop on my way to Bangalore. I have visited this place quite a few times and one of my visits is documented here !

When I heard Murugan Idli Shop opened in Velachery, I was quite skeptical to visit. Today, one of my friends suggested this place for dinner and I thought why not ! I should admit I only have positive things to say about this visit ! 🙂
They have this nice strategy to bring stuff to the table, so the waiting time is reduced. More often than not, customers say yes to it, and so did I. One plate/Dhonnai of Paniyaaram and one Chakkara Pongal was served first. We shared it between us. Paniyaaram was hot and wonderful, tasted good with the chutneys. Chakkara Pongal was yumm with lots of ghee. Ordered 2 Podi Idlis for each of us and this was wonderful! Generous amounts of ghee applied all over the podi, it was brilliant ! I was tempted to try the Ghee Onion Oothappam. It had shallots (chinna vengaayam) and was awesome!
Food was just yummy, had nothing to complain. All that we ate was fresh and hot. Chutneys were fresh and tasty even around 09:45 PM. We finished with a Jigarthanda, one by two. Overall, it was a nice experience, and wouldn’t mind going back again ! The bill was a fancy number 420 😉 !
