Lucky Da Punjabi Dhaba

A nice neat little place in Kandanchavadi, on MGR Salai. This is where the prominent IT office buildings are located – RMZ Millenia Park, SP Info City and so on. So basically there are a lot of IT people for whom this is more a regular place for food.

We stepped in around 8PM and we were the only people there in addition to the two others who were waiting for a takeaway! Quickly looked at the menu and ordered a couple of starters and Punjabi Beer aka Chaas for the three of us. Amritsari Fish, Lucky Special Kebab and Mustard Potatoes were the three starters we ordered.
The food was served in reasonable time. First of all, tried the lucky special Chicken Kebab, the chicken wasn’t as soft as I expected, it was chewy! Tried a couple of other pieces hoping this was an odd one, but it wasn’t so. Taste was good, but chicken was too hard. Mustard potatoes had a mild flavor of mustard, but clearly, the potatoes lacked salt. So it wasn’t the best either. Friends tasted Amritsari fish and they seemed to like it. So the starters were pretty ordinary and failed to make an impression. The Chaas was wonderful and could have been a bit cold, but wasn’t worth complaining.
Proceed to order the main course – 2 Butter Naans, 2 Rotis, 1 Chicken Patiala Half portion, 1 Paalak Paneer Half portion, 1 Vegetable Biryani. Again, it wasn’t a very long wait before the food was served. This time it was all positives. Firstly the portion sizes were nice. ‘Half’ portion was very thoughtful of them, so you can actually taste two varieties instead of just one Full portion of a single gravy. Butter Naan and Roti were wonderful, straight from the tandoor, piping hot ! Chicken Patiala gravy had nice flavorsome boneless pieces of chicken and tasty gravy. Paalak Paneer was tasty and a nice and soft paneer. Vegetable Biryani was also very good and tasted wonderful! Main course was absolutely wonderful and left us pretty stuffed, and satisfied 🙂
The moment I saw the menu, decided to have 2 things for dessert – Paan Icecream and Kulfi ! My luck couldn’t be that bad, they didn’t have both. 🙁 Pretty disappointed, decided to pay the bill and leave ! The dinner set us back by 1.3K and after a so-so starters and no-no desserts, I have to sum it up as an average experience, in spite of the wonderful main course.
Had to point to the guy at the counter twice to tone down the volume of the songs as it was a small place and it was a bit too loud that we had trouble listening to what we were talking among ourselves. The cold water from the cooler was a plus, felt soothing ! Not too keen to be back again, but possibly it could be one off day for them, would be worth checking out again ! While we were leaving, almost all tables except two were taken. So that’s a sign 🙂
