Chennai Restaurant Reviews

Kuttanad Restaurant

I have heard of this place before and quite a few people have recommended this restaurant for good Kerala food. As I’ve said earlier, whenever I visit some place and have a chance of eating out, I try to recollect what good options are available and choose a place where I’ve never been. That way, I get something to write about. This time myself and my friend, had to meet another friend in Besant Nagar and immediately Kuttanad came to my mind ! 🙂

I don’t know why, but I’ve always had a fascination for Kerala food. The coconut that they use, or the coconut oil that they use, it is somehow very flavorful and I love it. We entered the place around 8PM and that was quite a normal dinner time. The place was empty! :O I was sort of surprised. Having heard so many good things about this place, how could it be possibly be empty? We gathered courage and took a seat. A decent normal ambience, nothing worth raving about, and nothing worth complaining either. So we were good to go.
Asked the waiter to suggest and he started with some North-Indian starter. I told him specifically I was there for Kerala food and in fact, I wanted to have the jeeraga vaellam also 😉
He immediately understood and suggested Chicken Kothi Pori, One Egg Omelette, 4 Kerala Parottas (were spelt Porathas, so we’ll go with that name), Egg Curry, I was too tempted to taste Puttu and Kadala Curry, so ordered that too !
The food came in reasonable time, one after another. So I had to wipe by hands each time for a click 🙂 The Porathas were soft and good, the Egg Curry with it was damn tasty. Chicken Kothi Pori was good. By the look of it, I expected it to be absolutely wow, but it was just good. Omelette was good and the Puttu was sort of okayish..I mean, it was a bit dry on the outer sides. I’ve had better puttu than this, but the Kadala Curry almost made up for it. It was very tasty! They did not have desserts, not even payasam 🙂 so had to wind up !
Overall, the dinner was yummy ! I would definitely come back when I am around. The dinner set us back by about 450 rupees and is definitely VFM and they sell Mineral water bottle for twenty bucks. 🙂
Most importantly, forgot to say that by the time we started to eat, steady flow of people came in and I counted about 6-7 tables were taken. So it was definitely a popular place for good food in Besant Nagar.
